Ladder board

The ladder

Five levels. Earned, never given.

Martial arts have belts; the club has one ladder, the same in every discipline and every city. A coach tests each level, signs it in the app, and the patch on your gi carries the bars. It replaces colored belts, which belong to the arts, not the club.

Level 1

Foundation

Stance, guard, breakfall. The first ninety days.

Level 2

Technique

The six disciplines, tested one by one.

Level 3

Conditioning

Rounds at pace. The body that can use the technique.

Level 4

Competitor

Sanctioned competition, with the team in your corner.

Level 5

Fighter

The Fight Team. The door to the APFC cage.

Level 1 · I

Foundation

Stance, guard, breakfall. The first ninety days.

The first ninety days. Stance, guard, footwork, breakfall and the first combinations and escapes, three classes a week in Fundamentals. Kids earn it over their first season. The coach signs it when you can hold a round with form.

Technique

The six disciplines, tested one by one.

The six disciplines, tested one by one: a boxing test, a kickboxing test, a wrestling test, a jiu-jitsu test, a taekwondo test and the MMA test that puts them together. Each one is a short syllabus and a live assessment with a coach. Most members take a year.

Level 3 · III

Conditioning

Rounds at pace. The body that can use the technique.

Rounds at pace. Conditioning is not a class; it is the proof that the technique holds when you are tired. The test is a measured session on the mat with the head coach, and it is the gateway to sparring rounds at full speed.

Level 4 · IIII

Competitor

Sanctioned competition, with the team in your corner.

Sanctioned competition with the team in your corner: amateur MMA from 18, and before that USA Boxing, USA Wrestling, jiu-jitsu and taekwondo under their governing bodies. Competitor members train in the competitor line of every class and in camp before a bout.

Level 5 · IIIII

Fighter

The Fight Team. The door to the APFC cage.

The Fight Team. Fighter is awarded by the head coach to members who have competed, who train like professionals and who carry the club's standard. It opens the Fight Team door, the pro team's rounds at the flagship, and the path to an APFC Championship card.

On the wall

The ladder board

Every club hangs the board by the mat: five levels, a name plate for every member, moved by a coach's hand on grading night. The app carries the same record; the wall makes it public.
